| Make Right Judgments |
|

God blessed me and made me a grandfather when I was still forty-five years old. The delight of my eyes, named Sterling, grows more precious every day. And I am increasingly frightened.
I’ve seen too many shattered lives; I’ve heard too many tales of wrong decisions that have led people down paths with tragic endings. Is there no way I can protect this little guy from the world so filled with darkness?
Did God feel that way when His only Son participated fully in our gloomy, treacherous existence? We marvel that Jesus survived the cross and did not call the legions of angels at His disposal. But how much harder it must have been for His Father to hold back those same angels!
I know I cannot protect Sterling. I can only pray that his decisions, and the decisions of children everywhere, will reflect a right judgment.
All the water in the world, however hard it tried,
Could never, never sink a ship unless it got inside.
All the evil in the world, the wickedness and sin,
Can never sink your soul’s fair craft unless you let it in.

O Lord, who brought eternal light to a dark and struggling world, help us to be light as well for the precious little ones who are looking for guidance. In the name of the One who said, “I am the light.” Amen.

| 옳게 판단하세요 |

| “지혜가 많으면 번뇌도 많으니, 지식을 더하는 자는 근심을 더하느니라.” ( 전도서 1:18) |

하나님께 복을 받아 이제 제 나이 45세에 할아버지가 되었습니다. 눈에 넣어도 아프지 않을 손자녀석 스터링이 자랄수록 더 귀하게 느껴집니다. 다른 한편 두려움도 점차 커갑니다.
그 동안 인생이 결단난 사람들을 너무나 많이 보아왔습니다. 그릇된 결정으로 비극적 종말을 맞이한 사람들의 이야기도 수 없이 들었습니다. 어둠으로 가득한 이 세상에서 손자를 보호할 방법이 없을까요?
하나님의 독생자가 암울하고 반역적인 세상에서 생활할 때 하나님 역시 저와 같은 심정이셨을까요? 놀라운 일은 예수님은 십자가의 고통을 받으시면서도 자신의 휘하에 있는 천사군대를 동원하지 않으셨다는 점입니다. 그러나 아버지인 하나님께서 천사군대를 보내지 않고 지켜보기가 훨씬 더 힘들었으리라 충분히 짐작됩니다!
제가 손자를 보호하지 못하리라는 점을 압니다. 제가 할 수 있는 일이라곤 손자뿐만 아니라 전 세계에 있는 모든 어린이들이 판단을 잘하여 옳은 결정을 내리도록 기도하는 것뿐입니다.
세상 물결이 아무리 거세게 몰아쳐도
배에 침투에 오지 않는 한 도무지 배를 침몰시키지 못하네.
세상이 악, 사악함, 죄로 가득 차도
영혼에 들이지 않는 한 결코 영혼의 정교한 배를 침몰시키지 못하네. |
