V: Good morning, Don.
D: Good morning, Vicki.
V: This has been a fast month, hasn't it?
D: Yes, it has. But it has been a great month since we began every day with Power for Today.
V: What is this morning's reading about?
D: It is called "Beauty That is Soul-Deep."
V: The famous expression in English is "Beauty is Only Skin-Deep."
D: Right. So the author changes the expression just a little to talk about "soul-deep" beauty.
V: She says that the world defines beauty in physical terms.
D: Yes. Everyplace you look, whether it is pictured in magazines, or "flaunted" on the movie screen, the world emphasizes physical attractiveness.
V: The word "flaunt" means to display in a boastful manner. The world definitely wants people to notice the physical beauty of the actors and actresses.
D: However, as the author says, that kind of beauty is vain, and will not last.
V: Yes. Even those beautiful actresses will one day have wrinkles and sagging or weak muscles.
D: This brings us to author's point, that we need to be looking for the kind of lasting beauty that God talks about.
V: Exactly. The Bible says that Jesus was not physically attractive. But he was the most spiritually attractive person who ever lived.
D: So, we need to be applying the cosmetics of humility and obedience to the will of God if we want to really be beautiful.
V: In fact, that kind of beauty will get more and more beautiful with age.
D: Just like you.
V: You are too kind. Have a good one.

비키: 안녕히 주무셨어요, 여보?
단: 예, 당신도 잘 잤어요?
비키: 이번 달도 참 빨리 지나가네요, 그렇죠?
단: 네, 그래요. 하지만 ‘오늘의 능력’으로 하루하루를 시작한 덕택에 좋은 한 달이 됐어요.
비키: 오늘 본문은 어떤 내용을 다루고 있나요?
단: ‘영혼 깊은 곳의 아름다움’이 오늘 본문의 제목이에요.
비키: “아름다움은 피부 깊숙한 곳에 있다.”라는 유명한 영어표현이 있지요.
단: 맞아요. 작가는 그 표현을 빌려 영혼 깊은 곳의 아름다움에 대해 말하고자 한 것이에요.
비키: 작가는 세상은 아름다움에 대해 육체적인 용어로 정의하고 있다고 말하고 있어요.

비키: ‘flaunt’라는 단어는 무언가를 과장해서 표현하는 것을 의미해요. 세상은 확실히 사람들이 영화배우들의 육체적 아름다움에 관심 갖기를 원해요.
단: 하지만 작가도 말했듯이 그런 아름다움은 헛된 것이고, 영원하지 않아요.
비키: 맞아요. 그렇게 아름다운 여배우들도 나중에는 주름지고 근육도 약해지고 처질 거예요.
단: 이것이 작가가 지적하고자 하는 점이에요. 그러니까 우리는 하나님이 말씀하시는 영원한 아름다움을 찾을 필요가 있다는 것이지요.
비키: 그래요. 성경에도 보면 예수님은 겉모습으로 사람들의 눈길을 끌지는 못했다고 해요. 하지만 영적으로 그는 이 세상 누구보다 더 큰 최고의 매력을 가졌었지요.
단: 그래서 진정한 아름다움을 원한다면, 우리는 하나님 앞에서 겸손하고 하나님의 뜻에 순종하는 마음으로 가꿀 필요가 있어요.
비키: 사실, 그러한 아름다움은 나이가 들면 들수록 더 아름다워지는 것이에요.
단: 당신처럼 말이지요.
비키: 아부도 잘하시네요. 좋은 하루 보내길 바래요.
단: 당신도요. |
