Ministering to Jesus |
"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did f or me." ( Matthew 25:40 , NIV ) |
Recently I was cleaning out boxes in our basement and found memorabilia of our daughters' births. Among the hospital bracelets and parking stubs were a number of cards of congratulations.
Some of the names on t he cards were friends we have had for years, but some names were dim in my memory our lives had intersected for only a moment. I was again filled with gratitude for the kindnesses shown us.
This reflection reminded me of Jesus' words (Matthew 25). The righteous people in the story were incredulous that they had ministered to the King and were now receiving a reward because of it. Jesus implied that if we minister to another, we have ministered to Him. What a thought!
Though I can never repay the sweet women who knitted caps and booties for my babies, I can welcome, bless, and shower those whom I pass, if only for a brief moment. Though I can never repay Jesus for His indescribable gift, I can take care of the needs of the people He sends my way. |
Father, we are so grateful to You for the gift of eternal life. We receive that gift humbly and respond with willing hearts to feed the hungry. In Jesus' name, Amen. - RITA CORNETT, Wildwood, Missouri |
